Accessibility statement

HM Fire Service Inspectorate in Scotland is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This accessibility statement applies to https://www.hmfsi.scot/

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.

You should be able to:

  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • use most of the website using a screen reader

Alternative text

All images on this site are accompanied by a brief alternative text which where appropriate identifies an image or its function. This alternative text (alt-text) is generally only visible when the browser's automatic image loading feature is turned off.

Links

All text links are written so that they make sense when read out of context.

Text size

The text on this website has been styled using a non-fixed value in a style sheet. This means that you can easily change the text size using your browser settings.

Non-accessible content

Many documents are in less accessible formats, for example PDFs. Where possible we make documents accessible and/or provide a suitable HTML alternative.

  • There are some tables in PDFs that do not have correctly marked up headers. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1
  • Images on some PDF pages do not always have suitable image descriptions. Users of assistive technologies may not have access to information conveyed in images. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 7 December 2023.

The method involved a full accessibility audit of the website which was carried out by a third party with relevant sector knowledge.  This was carried out using a combination of software tools and manual testing. As result of this audit, recommended accessibility changes to the website were reviewed and accepted by HM Fire Service Inspectorate in Scotland.

The statement was last reviewed on 7 December 2023.
