Our purpose
His Majesty’s Fire Service Inspectorate in Scotland (HMFSI) exists to provide independent, risk-based and proportionate professional inspection of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). Our purpose is to give assurance to the public and to Scottish Ministers that the SFRS is working in an efficient and effective way, and to promote continuous improvement.
Ongoing inspection programmes
Service Delivery Area (SDA) Inspections
Our programme of SDA inspections allows us to provide assurance that the SFRS is delivering an efficient and effective service across the entire country.
Thematic Inspections
Our thematic inspections examine specific service-wide issues and generally aim to understand how the Service as a whole is managing the subject under review.
Other Focused Inspections
In addition to our planned programme of inspections, we occasionally carry out focused inspections. These may be prompted by a specific event or arise from a line of enquiry based on the professional judgement of the Chief Inspector. Inspections may also be conducted at the direction of Scottish Ministers.
