About us

What we do

HM Fire Service Inspectorate (HMFSI) operates independently of Scottish Government and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). We scrutinise, inspect and report on the SFRS with the purpose of assuring the public, and Scottish Ministers, that it is working in an efficient and effective way, and to promote continuous improvement in the Service.

Our team

HM Fire Service Inspectorate in Scotland operates under the leadership of HM Chief Inspector of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The Chief Inspector is supported by a team of Assistant Inspectors, admin staff and seconded personnel.

Our values

We aim to deliver our programme in line with our core values of Integrity, Objectivity and Fairness.

Our history

Established in 1948, HMFSI has provided independent scrutiny of the fire and rescue service in Scotland for over 75 years. This page tells you more about our history and journey to the present day.
